Snow Days

Yes, it has been way to long since our last post. It is just the way it goes when my classes start up and I have no spare time. Plus, not too many exciting things have been happening for us that is worth blogging about. However, I have had A LOT of free time on my hands this week because Chris and I have been out of school for four days due to snow and ice. Can you believe it? Our districts rarely close so to have school canceled for four days in a row is a first for us. We have had a nice little second winter break so I thought I would share what we have been up to.

This is what we woke up to this morning. We think we got about five inches of snow.

More snow.

So this is what we have done all week.

We did some of this…

I caught up on a lot of this…

We drank a ton of this….

We ate a whole container of these. Yes, it was full on Monday…Yikes!

We all did some more of this…

I even contemplated making some of this…But it hasn’t happened yet.

I think I may go back to this and wait it out for another day.

That is if I don’t get cabin fever first.

Yay for snow days!

Tis the Season!

Chris and I are so excited to finally be on our holiday break! School is out and I finished my crazy hard masters class with an A! Yay! We are excited to spend time with our families and relax. I thought I would share our holiday card this year. We thought a certain pug looked especially cute …

I also wanted to share a few of our decorations and our very first tree! We are pretty proud of it. However, as you can see I bought this beautiful silver topper for the tree and it was way too big so it is now hanging from our chandelier. We are kind of thinking of it as our Christmas disco ball!

A close up of the tree!

I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season and a very happy new year!

New Chairs

Chris and I have had a great but VERY busy start of the school year. It has been so busy that we have not had much time to blog or really do anything too exciting. Since my last post Chris’ grandmother was hospitalized and my dad had surgery on his Carotid Artery (in his neck) due to some blockage. However, we are happy to say that Chris’ grandmother is now home and doing better and my dad is back at work and hopefully taking it easy! I have also begun my class for my library science masters and this one class is taking up any spare time that I have. As I write this I should actually be reading the 17 articles that were assigned for this week, but I decided to take a blogging break instead! ha!

So in other news this past Friday my sister-in-law, Kelly, did a “show us your life – living room blog edition” and I thought it was perfect timing because this past week we finally got our new living room chairs that we have long been waiting for. We ordered them through the woman who has been helping us with our home, so like many of you who asked about our couch, there wasn’t a specific place that we bought them. However, I am so excited at how they turned out. Here are a couple pictures of the chairs and of the whole room from some different angles.

I am loving soft colors these days so I went with a soft blue color for the chairs.

A close up of one of the chairs and Coco who loves the new chairs too! Now she better stay off of them! Ha!

So that is our lastest news and we don’t have much more to report. However, I will say that today we bought Coco some of the funniest Halloween costume(s), because we couldn’t decide on just one. So get ready for some funny pictures of Coco as we near closer to October. Until then, have a super week!

Goodbye Summer!

Chris and I have had a great summer. We are sad to see it end, but we are excited to see what the new school year will bring. Tomorrow is the first day of school with the kids and this will be our 8th year of teaching. Can you believe that? Where did the time go? I will be teaching 3rd grade again and Chris will be the science and math specialist at his school for the second year. For most of the summer I wasn’t sure if I was going to be teaching 3rd grade because I am getting my masters in library science. My district is always in need of librarians so they will hire after you have six hours towards a masters. This summer I completed 15 hours towards my degree and I had a few interviews for librarian positions. Most of the schools wanted someone who was bilingual or someone who had more experience. However, one school DID offer me the job, but it wasn’t the right fit for me, so I turned it down. I am at a great school, and I love the people I work with, so I didn’t see any harm in teaching for another year while I get some more hours and more knowledge under my belt. I am excited and hopeful that the right librarian position will come along next year!

Here are a few really blurry pictures from my phone that I took yesterday as I put the last few finishing touches on my classroom. After eight years of teaching, getting my classroom and everything ready for the start of school has never gotten much easier! I always end up going to school on the Saturday before the first day.

Front of the room.

Some of my bulletin boards. You can’t tell but I made my reading bulletin board say, “I read some GREAT books this summer! Did you?” On each of the little books I put all of the children’s books I read this summer in my children’s literature class. I really enjoyed the class and I read over 20 books, so I thought it was a good idea. When the kids arrive tomorrow I can then erase all the books I wrote (I used erasable marker) and have them write some great books that they read! Let’s just hope they have some! Ha!

Back of the room. I am in a portable — or a trailer as some people like to call it — so that is why my room looks really long. I like the portables only because the 3rd grade teachers’ rooms are all connected and we can control our own AC. But other than that I would rather be in the main building because our portables are old and are falling apart. But that is why we have to work so hard to make it look great on the inside!

I hope everyone (parents, teachers, and students) has a great start of the school year!
